About the position

As a Mechanical Design Engineer with Nidec Aerospace, you will play a crucial role in designing electric propulsion systems for battery-powered aircraft, contributing to the aerospace industry's transition to sustainable and efficient transportation. Responsibilities

  • Provide online and in-person technical support to customers regarding electric motor selection, application, and integration.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical analyses to evaluate the performance and efficiency of electric motor systems.
  • Assist in the design and development of custom electric motor solutions to meet customer specifications.
  • Provide training and guidance to customers and internal teams on electric motor technology and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for product improvements or new product development based on market trends and customer feedback.
  • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and technical discussions to support static and flight test campaigns and address technical inquiries.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to optimize motor designs for specific applications and performance requirements.
  • Plan and participate in prototype builds, production startup activities, and production support activities throughout product life cycle.
  • Familiarity with FMEA, Control Plans, and other technical documentation.
  • Participate in First Piece Article inspection/APQP/PPAP processes for newly specified components.
  • Lead prototype builds/teardown analysis of new drivers and design validation testing.
  • Lead technical design reviews for newly developed solutions with cross functional teams.

Requirements

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 3 or more years related work experience in electric motors and drives or similar industry a plus.
  • Familiarity with using 3D modeling software.
  • Creo 3D CAD solid modeling skills in supporting new product designs preferred.
  • Familiarity with reading 2D drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with die castings, machined parts, composites, and/or injection molded plastics.
  • Experience with electric motor testing, simulation and analysis tools.
  • Experience with high power electronics packaging is a plus.
  • Experience using materials common in the aerospace industry is a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with and learn from a cross functional team.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative, ‘out-of-the-box' thinking.
  • Ability to handle competing demands and support multiple, concurrent programs.
  • Experience with aviation DO-160G testing and DO-254 development.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for tests and customer visits.
