About the position

As an Application Engineer - Automation and Controls at Graybar, you will play a crucial role in supporting the sales of high-tech automation and control products. Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with branch personnel to identify opportunities for products that meet customer needs. This position requires you to specify products that align with customer requirements and recommend an appropriate inventory of automation products. You will also be responsible for informing both sales staff and customers about new developments in automation and related product technologies. In addition to these responsibilities, you will provide essential technical services to customers regarding the operation and maintenance of automation equipment. This includes offering technical support for automation and control products to both customers and company personnel, as well as updating them on new product developments. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that customers receive the best possible solutions tailored to their specific automation needs, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and driving sales growth. This position demands a proactive approach to understanding customer requirements and the ability to communicate complex technical solutions effectively to non-technical staff. You will be expected to make oral and written presentations to both internal and external contacts, showcasing your expertise in automation and control products.

Responsibilities

  • Specify products to meet customer requirements and needs

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required in progressively more responsible sales, marketing, and/or field experience
  • 2 year degree required, Technical college or equivalent
  • 6+ years experience preferred
  • Knowledge of high-tech automation and control products
  • Knowledge of engineering principles related to customer automation products
  • Knowledge of suppliers' automation products
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal, organizational and team building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with management and evaluate customer needs
  • Ability to clearly present complex solutions to non-technical staff
  • Ability to make oral and written presentations to internal and external contacts
  • Extensive travel required
