About the position

The Application Engineer for Automotive Sales at Freudenberg-NOK General Partnership plays a crucial role in enhancing product quality and customer satisfaction through engineering expertise. This position involves analyzing warranty parts and data to make informed recommendations for quality improvements. The engineer will report the results of field investigations and assembly teardowns, collaborating closely with various associated organizations within Freudenberg-NOK, including materials engineering, tribology and lubrication, computer-aided engineering (CAE), and program management. In addition to quality improvement initiatives, the Application Engineer will maintain an open issues list and assist in formal problem resolution with plant quality personnel. The role also includes participation in cost-reduction initiatives and value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) projects. The engineer will serve as a liaison between customers and Freudenberg-NOK, providing pertinent contacts for design, manufacturing feasibility, quality, or material concerns. Arranging appropriate meetings and ensuring timely communication with customers is essential to this role. The Application Engineer will be responsible for promptly reporting and following up on corrective actions related to quality problems with Freudenberg-NOK products. They will also provide market information through benchmarking and act as a catalyst to ensure the correctness and timeliness of customer responses by eliminating communication roadblocks. This position may require travel to customer sites and Freudenberg-NOK/Freudenberg sites, with travel expectations up to 30%.

Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations for quality improvements from analysis of warranty parts and data
  • Report results of field investigations and assembly teardowns
  • Work with associated FNST and customer organizations (materials engineering; tribology and lubrication; CAE; program management; etc.)
  • Maintenance of open issues list
  • Assist in formal problem resolution with FNST plant quality personnel
  • Participate in cost-reduction initiatives and VA/VE
  • Provide customer with pertinent FNST contacts at laboratory or plant for design, manufacturing feasibility, quality or material concerns
  • Arrange appropriate meetings of above
  • Relate FNST business or product plans to customer as needed
  • Prompt reporting and follow-up of corrective actions to quality problems with Freudenberg-NOK product
  • Provide market information as provided via benchmarking
  • Provide catalyst to ensure correctness and timeliness of customer responses by eliminating communication roadblocks within capabilities of FNGP and customer
  • Insure timely response and liaison to customer requests including all other duties as required including travel to customer sites and FNST/FST sites up to 30%.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Manufacturing or technical equivalent)
  • 2 + years practical Engineering experience in a corporate or plant environment
  • Professional level English language skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 30%
  • Strong engineering analytical problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude
  • Project management experience a plus
