About the position

The Application Engineer, Data role at Google involves leading all aspects of web development, requirements gathering, software development, testing, documentation, training, implementation, ongoing support, and maintenance for both in-house and customer-facing web applications. The position is integral to the Finance Works BI organization, which focuses on developing a centralized source of truth for Google's financial data using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to innovate and meet user and customer needs, while ensuring the highest levels of development practices are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support business intelligence and analytical pipelines and applications using GCP and other tools.
  • Develop complex, big data pipelines and reporting solutions with low tolerances for data error.
  • Lead design, data modeling, architecture, coding, performance tuning, testing, and support of analytical systems.
  • Maintain high levels of development practices including technical design, solution development, and test documentation/execution.
  • Implement projects in a multi-stakeholder and dynamic environment to achieve team and project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working with one or more general programming languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with big data platforms such as BigQuery, F1, or Spanner.
  • Experience with Kimball data modeling and BUS architecture.
  • Experience automating data reconciliations for large scale financial data marts with low tolerances for data error.
  • Experience with GCP stack.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
