About the position

As a Sales Application Engineer specializing in Fire Detection Systems at Johnson Controls, you will play a pivotal role in supporting sales and growth initiatives across the EMEA region. This position allows for flexibility as you will be working from home or a local office while directly reporting to the regional team supervisor. Your primary responsibility will be to provide application support for the complete portfolio of Johnson Controls EN Global Products fire detection business, including both addressable and conventional fire detection systems, as well as Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems. You will engage directly with system distributors, installers, commissioning engineers, and end-users, ensuring that their needs are met with the highest level of service and expertise. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams including sales, customer service, inside sales, marketing, training, and research and development. Your contributions will be essential in delivering product support to customers and sales teams, utilizing JCI fire detection software tools to provide tailored solutions that meet site-specific requirements. You will also be responsible for advising and supporting projects by applying solutions that comply with international codes and standards such as EN, BS, NFPA, and UL. Johnson Controls will provide product-specific training to ensure your continued personal development and success in this role. Your position will require effective communication with consultants, designers, project managers, and end-users, allowing you to not only provide application services for fire detection and PAVA systems but also to contribute to the overall success of projects through your technical expertise and problem-solving skills. This role is designed for a self-disciplined individual who can work autonomously while being part of a larger team, demonstrating a strong customer focus and a drive for results.

Responsibilities

  • Provide application support for the complete Johnson Controls EN Global Products fire detection business portfolio and PAVA systems.
  • Engage directly with system distributors, installers, commissioning engineers, and end-users.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, customer service, inside sales, marketing, training, and R&D teams.
  • Utilize JCI fire detection software tools to provide tailored solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with consultants, designers, project managers, and end-users.
  • Advise and support projects by applying solutions according to international codes and standards (EN, BS, NFPA, UL).
  • Deliver product-specific training to customers and sales teams as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical/electronic engineering or relevant experience in the fire detection industry.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in the fire detection industry.
  • Excellent working knowledge of fire and voice alarm design installation standards including BS5839.
  • Good verbal and written command of the English language.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Up to date with current industry trends and standards.
  • Understanding of the application of EN standards in regards to fire detection products.
  • General awareness of relevant building standards and codes of practice for the region.
  • Solid business communication skills, with the ability to report movements and meeting notes.
  • Ability to create presentations and present relevant subject matter as required.
  • Computer literate, well-versed in MS Office, Salesforce, and diagnostic tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Zettler and Fireclass products is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to identify the need for and develop processes and supporting materials.
