About the position

The Applications Engineer - Gas Engine Controls is responsible for the development and execution of control systems for power generation using reciprocating gas engines. This role focuses on retrofitting and converting control systems to various programmable controls, including multipoint injection controls and associated gas valve equipment. The engineer will manage projects from conception through design, testing, and onsite commissioning, ensuring compliance with safety standards and documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex site applications from start to completion utilizing company and third-party resources.
  • Supervise and develop junior engineers and field service engineers on specific tasks related to gas engine applications.
  • Act as a specialist applications engineer in a consultant role, serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Develop new and special applications for gas engine controls.
  • Assist in developing standards and processes to advance company engineering practices.
  • Champion multiple products and applications within the company.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components for hazards and compliance with codes.
  • Troubleshoot problems with electrical machinery, systems, and components.
  • Install or replace electrical and electronic components of equipment and systems.
  • Design and test integrated systems for engine safety controls on board and land-based applications.
  • Maintain documentation of manuals, descriptions, and electrical/electronic drawings.
  • Report work scope, activities, findings, and conditions in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Accomplish goals in alignment with company strategies and leadership competencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in power generation, industrial automation, or related industry, or 12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in Automation Control Systems and Instrumentation.
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus.
  • Demonstrated self-starting ability with good interpersonal skills.
  • Valid US Driving License and clean driving record.
  • Valid Passport.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in marine engine and backup power generation sectors.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and safety standards.
