About the position

As an Application Engineer II at Emerson, you will play a crucial role in our Houston manufacturing facility, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to produce all necessary information for creating custom application-engineered products tailored to customer orders and quotes. This position requires a deep understanding of our catalogued products, including motor starters, panelboards, and custom control stations, as well as the ability to provide technical support for daily operations, switch racks, and various projects. In this role, you will learn the specifications and applications of all catalogued products, collaborating closely with designers, engineers, and supervisors to generate the required drawings and documentation for customer orders or quotes. You will also provide product selection support to the quotations group, sales team, and customers, applying your detailed understanding of catalog applications and the implications of electrical modifications. Your support will extend to the manufacturing department for application engineering designs, and you will be responsible for training and providing electrical support to team members. Utilizing AutoCAD 2D, you will create drawings and wiring diagrams, while also leveraging Oracle for Bill of Material (BOM) creation and job management. It will be essential to verify and validate drawings and BOMs to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements under the National Electrical Code. You will send drawings for approval, release order packages to production, and produce Non-Conformance Reports (NMRs). Additionally, you will approve engineering deviations for customer orders and standard designs, address field issues, and resolve customer inquiries promptly. Adhering to all company safety policies and procedures is paramount, and you may be required to perform other duties as assigned, including working overtime when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Learn specifications and applications of all catalogued products (i.e. motor starters, panelboards, and custom control stations)
  • Work with designers, engineers, and supervisors to produce the required drawings and documentation for customer orders or quotes
  • Provide product selection support to the quotations group, sales group and/or customers

  • Provide training and electrical support to team members
  • Create drawings and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD 2D
  • Utilize Oracle for Bill of Material (BOM) creation and job management

  • Work overtime as required

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Technology Degree
  • Effective leadership and communication skills: verbal and written (English)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2D
  • 2+ years' experience in motor control design, panel building, and switchrack design concepts
  • Familiarity with hazardous location standards (NEC/CEC/IEC/ATEX)
  • Technical knowledge of raceway fill calculations per the National Electrical Code, current transformer sizing, and space heater sizing
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting
