About the position

The Application Engineer II position at KDC Inc. is a critical role that combines engineering design and programming expertise, particularly in the fields of water/wastewater, material handling, and life science automation projects. This position requires a deep understanding of project documentation development, control panel design, and the configuration and programming of PLCs and visualization systems. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all project specifications are met while adhering to industry standards such as UL 508A/698. In this role, the engineer will design control panels that include power distribution, I/O assignments, interconnection drawings, and component selection. They will also be tasked with developing single line and three-line drawings, coordinating with panel shops during fabrication, and leading software logic development. This includes configuring I/O, communication channels, and creating comprehensive logic documentation. The engineer will interface with project stakeholders to ensure that the control systems meet the requirements outlined in project contracts and will be involved in testing and commissioning control systems in validation environments typical of the water/wastewater and life science industries. Additionally, the Application Engineer II will provide training to customer personnel on the operation and implementation of control systems, ensuring that all aspects of the project are communicated effectively. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, all while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Design control panels to UL 508A/698 standards including power distribution, I/O assignment, interconnection drawings, panel layout, component selection, BoM formulation, material requisitions, load and thermal calculations, and SCCR calculations.
  • Select field devices/instrumentation and develop instrument data sheets per project specifications.
  • Develop single line/three-line drawings.
  • Coordinate with panel shop during control panel fabrication.
  • Develop, submit, obtain approval, and execute unwitnessed and witnessed control panel factory acceptance tests.
  • Lead all aspects of software logic development including I/O configuration, communication channel configuration, PLC/DCS/HMI network block diagram, software address database, modular re-usable logic, comprehensive logic documentation, logical program file organization, security, remote access implementation, and device networking.
  • Interface with project stakeholders to develop and present the overall control system to meet project contract documents and system functionality requirements.
  • Develop submittals for approval by the customer of control panel designs, software logic, control strategies, and test procedures as required.
  • Test and commission control systems as part of a project team in strict validation environments.
  • Provide training to customer personnel on all aspects of the control system implementation and operation.
