This role involves collaborating with customers, suppliers, and manufacturers to translate designs into production. You will provide technical guidance to support project schedules and product costs, ensuring the overall success of our initiatives. In this position, you will engage in various key activities, including designing motors both electrically and mechanically, sampling motors for customers, obtaining engineering approvals, and setting up motors for production. You will also provide ongoing support to customers and manufacturing plants for motors that are already in production. Your contributions will be vital in maintaining the high standards of quality and performance that Nidec is known for. You will be responsible for creating product specifications, preparing proposals and quotations, and providing technical support for both internal and on-site customers. Additionally, you will support sales and marketing efforts with product selection and develop relationships with diverse customers. Working closely with engineers from various departments, you will help resolve problems that arise during and after implementation, participate in cost reduction projects, and support the software and development groups on new platforms. Your role will also involve testing and troubleshooting new software versions, supporting the Quality department, and performing testing per internal and external standards. This position requires the ability to read electrical diagrams, create project-related schedules, resource plans, and test plans, and utilize lab tools and measuring equipment to test fractional horsepower motors. You will graph technical and performance data, interpret results, and maintain production bills of materials and drawings for motor products. Furthermore, you will troubleshoot and resolve quality issues with motor designs and manufacturing processes, ensuring that Nidec continues to meet the challenges of the future.

Responsibilities

  • Creating product specifications

  • Working with engineers from various departments to resolve problems that arise during and after implementation
  • Providing ideas and participating in cost reduction projects
  • Supporting the software group in testing and troubleshooting new software versions
  • Supporting the development group on new platforms
  • Supporting the Quality department
  • Reading electrical diagrams
  • Performing testing per internal and/or external standards and creating test result reports
  • Reviewing and summarizing test data
  • Coordinating team meetings and conference calls with customer engineers, manufacturing, sales, and quality personnel
  • Creating project-related schedules, resource plans, and test plans
  • Using lab tools and measuring equipment to test fractional horsepower motors
  • Graphing technical and performance data and interpreting results
  • Creating and maintaining production bills of materials and drawings for motor products
  • Supporting remote manufacturing plants
  • Troubleshooting and resolving quality issues with motor designs and manufacturing processes

Requirements

  • B.S in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 2-4 years of work experience, preferably in the electric motor industry
  • Co-op/Internship experiences in engineering or manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Informal leadership skills and ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and team orientation
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to navigate Microsoft Office applications and learn other computer skills
  • Familiarity/experience to safely operate hand tools and power tools (drill, electric saw, etc.)
  • Some travel required on a quarterly basis
