About the position

As an Application Engineer II at HCA Healthcare, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the patient experience through the development and support of enterprise-level software systems. This position requires a motivated and agile developer with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Microsoft .NET development framework. You will be responsible for identifying and removing impediments to produce quality software solutions within agreed timelines. Your work will involve participating in design and development projects across the department's portfolio of applications, utilizing Microsoft-centric development technologies such as .NET, .NET CORE, SQL Server, JavaScript, XML, and Git/GitHub. In this role, you will communicate regularly with management and technical support colleagues, lead small development efforts, and test and maintain software to ensure strong functionality and optimization. You will also coordinate with team leads to install, customize, and integrate commercial software packages, conduct root cause analysis of issues, and provide detailed documentation of your work. Your ability to make informed technical decisions will be essential in addressing business challenges and improving system performance. Operationally, you will support and maintain applications, resolve technical design issues, and provide support to internal customers. You will mentor peers, complete assignments on time, and may be required to provide after-hours support. Responsibilities

  • Participate in design and development projects across the department's portfolio of applications.
  • Utilize Microsoft-centric development technologies including .NET, .NET CORE, SQL Server, JavaScript, XML, and Git/GitHub.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with management and technical support colleagues.
  • Lead localized small size development efforts.
  • Test, maintain, and recommend software improvements to ensure strong functionality and optimization.
  • Coordinate with the team lead to install, customize, and integrate commercial software packages.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of issues and perform unit/functional testing.
  • Identify ideas to improve system performance and impact availability.
  • Write technical specifications and provide detailed documentation of work.
  • Collaborate with business analysts on project requirements.
  • Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate estimates, documentation, and reports as requested.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technological developments and architecture design trends.
  • Build relationships within the department and across the organization.
  • Actively participate on multiple projects and tasks in parallel with limited loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Produce defined deliverables within project plan dates.
  • Clarify work expectations, monitor activities, and report on statuses.
  • Develop software to HCA standards.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Value Statement.
  • Participate in day-to-day support and maintenance activities across the department.
  • Resolve intermediate and semi-complex technical design issues.
  • Provide support to internal customers and achieve resolution to outstanding problems or issues.
  • Assist Team Lead/Manager in leading troubleshooting activities to resolution with identified root cause.
  • Mentor other peers on supported applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience building and supporting enterprise-level software systems within the Microsoft .NET development framework.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading small development efforts and mentoring peers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL Server OLTP and OLAP processing.
