About the position

The Application Support Engineer role at Amazon Exports and Expansion focuses on managing incidents and operational issues for large-scale services. The position is integral to ensuring operational excellence and providing first-level support for production services, enabling a seamless shopping experience for international customers on Amazon's global marketplaces.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first level of support for handling tickets and operational issues from production services.
  • Provide engineering support for incoming tickets, including extensive troubleshooting and debugging across multiple product lines.
  • Work on maintenance-driven coding projects, primarily using Perl, shell scripts, and Java.
  • Read and understand complex application code to make necessary code fixes for support issues.
  • Support software deployment in staging and production environments.
  • Develop tools to automate manual operational tasks and facilitate easy maintenance of services.
  • Build monitoring metrics dashboards and report on system health and support status metrics.
  • Collaborate with remote development teams in Seattle to manage active support issues and create a knowledge base.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of software development or technical support experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems.
  • Experience in Unix.
  • Experience scripting in modern programming languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of web services and distributed systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining hardware and software RAID.
  • Experience with REST web services, XML, and JSON.
