About the position

As an Applications Engineer III in Operational Technology (OT) at ADM, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the standardization and innovation of OT distributed control systems (DCS) and manufacturing execution systems (MES) applications architecture, support, and engineering on a global scale. This full-time, exempt position is based in Decatur, IL, with potential work locations including Cedar Rapids or Clinton, IA, and Erlanger, KY. You will collaborate closely with OT engineers, Process Automation (PA) engineers, and key business segments, including Global Technology (GT), to ensure the successful delivery of OT solutions to ADM operations. Your responsibilities will include managing the OT DCS/MES applications ecosystem globally, partnering with PA and application owners to establish and communicate DCS/MES applications architecture and procedure standards. You will drive the development and implementation of strategic direction for OT DCS/MES applications architecture, focusing on optimizing resources and ensuring plant uptime in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs). As the key OT liaison for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems integration efforts for MES, you will also maintain compliance for DCS/MES-related licensing in collaboration with PA. In this role, you will manage the collection of application requirements and controls from affected functional departments to identify problem areas and provide operationally efficient solutions. Following OT project methodology guidelines, you will coordinate application activities with OT/PA managers to prevent plant interruptions during upgrades and patching. Additionally, you will participate in vendor evaluations, recommend and review functional and overall application design, and complete technical planning to enhance systems productivity and efficiency. Managing third-party suppliers and contractors may also be part of your responsibilities, and some travel and on-call duties are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage and maintain OT DCS/MES applications ecosystem globally

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associates degree in a technical discipline (computer science, engineering, etc.)
  • 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise-level technology operations and services, including experience managing the lifecycle, maintenance, and upgrades of network technologies
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of process automation/control applications and HMI software applications (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Honeywell, Wonderware, Emerson DeltaV, Valmet (NovaTech) D/3, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience managing the lifecycle, maintenance, and upgrades of DCS/MES applications
  • Ability to think 'outside the box'
  • Strong communication skills - communicate at a conceptual level as well as at a hands-on, practical level
  • Highly motivated, self-starter
  • Comfortable working with cross-functional global teams
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to skillfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and succeed in an environment of competing priorities
