About the position

The Amazon Kindle Engineering Support team is seeking a dedicated individual to join our innovative team responsible for providing tier 3/4 production engineering support for the Kindle digital product family. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our software products and involves working closely with development teams and production operations teams to coordinate software product releases and deployments. As a member of this team, you will be expected to hit the ground running, demonstrating your ability to learn quickly and manage multiple overlapping tasks effectively. In this position, you will provide support for incoming tickets, which includes extensive troubleshooting tasks across various products, features, and services. You will also engage in operations and maintenance-driven coding projects, primarily utilizing Perl or shell scripts, as well as web technologies, with opportunities to work on Java-based projects. Your responsibilities will include software deployment support in both staging and production environments, developing tools to aid operations and maintenance, and reporting on system and support status. You will take ownership of one or more digital products or components, ensuring customer notifications and workflow coordination to maintain service level agreements. Collaboration with the support team will be essential, particularly in handing off or taking over active support issues and creating a comprehensive team-specific knowledge base and skill set. This role is based in Chennai, TN, IND, and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of Amazon's Kindle products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for incoming tickets, including extensive troubleshooting tasks across multiple products, features, and services.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of software development experience or 2+ years of technical support experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems.
  • Experience in Unix.
  • Experience scripting in modern programming languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of web services, distributed systems, and web application development.
  • Experience scripting in one or more languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby).
  • Experience with REST web services, XML, JSON.
