About the position

WEG Electric Corp. has a great opportunity for an Application Engineer (MV Automation) to join our team in Duluth, GA. This role serves as the primary technical and commercial resource for the field sales team and customer base for MV Automation products. The Application Engineer will be responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, ensuring that reliable and optimized solutions are provided to assure complete customer satisfaction throughout all stages of the sales and order processes. In this position, the Application Engineer must establish and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers throughout the sales cycle. This includes maintaining an expert level of product and application knowledge of medium voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs) and soft starters. The engineer will articulate product offerings, positioning, and capabilities to both business and technical users, ensuring clarity and understanding of the products being offered. The role also involves reviewing and clarifying requests for quotations, identifying project/customer details vital for determining quotation strategies, and leading the quotation/opportunity process by aligning customer needs with WEG's product offerings. The Application Engineer will proactively seek opportunities for optimized, cost-saving solutions, generate and present proposals to customers, and actively participate in the order entry process. This includes reviewing customer purchase orders, generating order entry materials, and participating in both internal and customer kickoff meetings. Additionally, the Application Engineer will assist project managers with technical clarifications, drawing reviews, and participate in customer meetings as required. Resolving customer issues in a manner consistent with the company’s mission, values, and financial objectives is also a key responsibility of this role. Other duties and tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Actively drive and manage the technology evaluation stage of the sales process.
  • Identify and provide reliable, optimized solutions to assure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers throughout the sales cycle.
  • Maintain expert level of product and application knowledge of MV VFDs and soft starters.
  • Articulate product offering, positioning, and capabilities to both business and technical users.
  • Review and clarify requests for quotations (specifications, emails, phone calls, etc.).
  • Identify project/customer details vital for determining quotation strategies and competitive strengths/weaknesses.
  • Lead and take ownership of the quotation/opportunity by learning customer needs/expectations and aligning them with WEG's product offering/capabilities.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for optimized, cost-saving solutions.
  • Generate and present proposals to customers and proactively request feedback as appropriate.
  • Establish appropriate pricing levels based on competitive landscape and sales cycle knowledge.
  • Participate in the order entry process including review of customer purchase orders and generating order entry materials.
  • Assist project managers with technical clarifications, drawing reviews, and participate in customer meetings as required.
  • Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar field or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage VFDs / soft starters and their applications is required.
  • Understanding of basic electric motor characteristics (HP, speed, torque) is required.
  • Ability to select and size VFDs for different applications is preferred.
  • Moderate understanding of various industrial applications (compressors, pumps, mills, etc.) is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, symbols, and nomenclature is required.
  • Moderate understanding of the sales process for engineered products (MV VFDs, soft starters, etc.).
  • Moderate understanding of OEMs, EPCs, and Users of the industry assigned is required.
  • Moderate knowledge of market and competitive landscape is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • 3+ years of related experience preferred.
