About the position

As an Application Engineer at Discover Financial Services, you will support the SAS Electronic Fraud Management tools by building and releasing reliable software systems at scale. This role involves collaborating with enterprise-wide teams to develop and maintain full stack solutions that meet business needs, while also innovating and advocating for best practices in software development.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality to production.
• Provide learning tasks and direct the work of Associate Application Engineers, helping them grow professionally.
• Achieve team commitments and influence others through informal leadership and strong communication skills.
• Oversee design decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for assigned products.
• Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failures.
• Contribute to and lead technology communities at Discover.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• Technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale (for internal applicants).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with ReactJS and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with cloud container platforms (Kubernetes, OCP).
• Full stack development experience.
• Experience in API domain design, API security (JWT, OAUTH), and API testing.
• Knowledge of Core Java, Spring (Security, OAuth, MVC, JPA, Hibernate, REST API, Swagger).
• Experience with performance testing tools like Gatling and Jmeter.
• Experience working in an agile development environment and exposure to XP engineering practices.
• Familiarity with Jenkins CI/CD and SQL/PostgresSQL/Maria DB.
