About the position

The position involves overseeing the design and implementation of products within a team at Discover, a leading digital banking and payments company. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership, guiding early-career engineers while managing risks and customer-impacting issues. The individual will be responsible for analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and deploying new user stories and product features, ensuring high quality and reliability throughout the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design and implementation of assigned products.
• Analyze, design, code, test, and deploy new user stories and product features.
• Manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues to management.
• Guide early-career engineers through mentorship and learning tasks.
• Make application, system, and architecture design decisions.
• Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and data scientists to achieve team commitments.
• Contribute to and lead technology communities of practice in various areas.
• Create and enforce IT standards within the system/application infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, or Information Technology.
• 3+ years of experience in Information Technology (Software) Engineering or related fields.
• Technical proficiency rating of Competent on the Dreyfus Engineering scale for internal applicants.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in developing machine learning models using Splunk or other big data solutions.
• Ability to develop, decode, and debug Splunk queries.
• Experience performing Splunk environment installs, filtering data, and managing indexes.
