About the position

As an Application Engineer - System Protection, you will be responsible for providing expert technical support and solutions for power system protection relays. Your role will involve teaching and supporting customers to ensure the reliability and safety of power grids. A typical day might include helping customers apply and troubleshoot SEL products, developing, testing, and documenting solutions for complex power system protection, control, and metering challenges using SEL products and solutions. You will also participate in SEL seminars, industry technical meetings, and conferences, contributing to new product specifications and product enhancements. Additionally, you will contribute to and review white papers, application guides, industry journals, and technical papers, ensuring that you stay at the forefront of industry developments and innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical support for power system protection relays.
  • Teach and support customers to ensure reliability and safety of power grids.
  • Help customers apply and troubleshoot SEL products.
  • Develop, test, and document solutions for complex power system protection challenges.
  • Participate in SEL seminars, industry technical meetings, and conferences.
  • Contribute to new product specifications and enhancements.
  • Review and contribute to white papers, application guides, and technical papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with power system protection and relays.
  • Relevant work experience and knowledge of utility and/or industrial power systems with an emphasis on protection, control, and operations.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a desire to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
