About the position

The Applications Engineer Trainee at Mazak Corporation will join the Applications team at the Southwest Technology Center in Houston, TX. This role is designed for individuals with a strong technical and mechanical background who are eager to learn and develop skills to support sales and customers in various applications functions. The trainee will work closely with experienced Applications Engineers to gain hands-on experience and knowledge necessary for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively attain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Provide telephone/e-mail customer support on the operation and use of Mazak Products
  • Provide part processing/machine recommendations to best produce customer parts at the stated quantities
  • Perform time study estimates of machine cycle time
  • Create proposals to manufacture customer parts including labor and tooling/work holding costs
  • Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts
  • Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events
  • Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events
  • Train customers on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility
  • Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability/prove processing concepts

Requirements

  • Military Veteran with Technical training certificate or a degree/certification in mechanical, manufacturing, or related field from an accredited vocational school
  • Associates degree in mechanical or manufacturing or related field from an accredited university
  • Strong technical/mechanical aptitude
  • Personable and customer/sales oriented
  • Strong communication/verbal skills including the ability to write clear and concise reports with recommended action plans
  • Ability to think through problems and resolve them independently
  • Mechanically inclined and enjoys working on machinery/equipment
  • Willingness to travel and maintain a flexible schedule
  • Background with CAD/CAM and EIA/ISO (G-code) programming skills (e.g., Mastercam, Gibbs, Esprit)
  • Knowledge of metal cutting tooling and material grades is beneficial
  • Practical part processing knowledge and machine tool experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Work experience operating turning and/or machining centers/metal cutting equipment
