About the position

Danfoss Turbocor is seeking an Application Engineer to join our dynamic sales team. This role is pivotal in providing pre-sales engineering-level technical support to OEM design professionals and Key Account Managers. The Application Engineer will collaborate closely with the Product Management and Technical Service groups to promote, develop, and support Danfoss Turbocor products. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in oil-free centrifugal compressor integration to enhance chiller, refrigeration, and heat pump systems. This position demands strong problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, to assist OEM customers in optimizing the operation, efficiency, and value of Turbocor-based magnetic bearing compressor systems. The ideal candidate will preferably be based in Tallahassee, Florida, but we are open to considering remote employees. This position reports directly to the Global Director of Application Engineering. The Application Engineer will be responsible for interfacing directly with OEM design professionals, providing them with the necessary support for their development projects. This includes ensuring the seamless integration of Turbocor compressors into the mechanical, electrical, and control systems of their products. The role also involves delivering face-to-face and virtual application training, prototype testing support, product promotion, and troubleshooting services for OEM customers. In addition, the Application Engineer will serve as a technical liaison between Danfoss Turbocor's Product Engineering functions and OEM technical support teams, necessitating clear and timely communication. The role requires providing onsite and virtual troubleshooting for complex system and compressor-level issues, along with creating comprehensive reports detailing findings and recommendations. The Application Engineer will also gather customer-based product requirements to relay to Product Management and Engineering functions, and provide technical expertise to resolve quality issues. Furthermore, the role includes creating technical documentation for design, application, site visit reports, and product bulletins, ensuring compliance with quality policies and procedures to uphold product quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Interface directly with OEM design professionals to support their development projects through the seamless integration of Turbocor compressors into the mechanical, electrical, and control systems of their products.
  • Provide face-to-face and virtual application training, prototype testing support and evaluation, product promotion, and system troubleshooting services for OEM customers.
  • Serve as a technical interface between the Danfoss Turbocor Product Engineering functions and OEM technical support teams, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Provide onsite and virtual troubleshooting of complex system and compressor level issues and communicate findings and recommendations in clear concise oral and written reports.
  • Provide customer-based product requirements to Product Management and Product Engineering functions.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to support resolution of Quality Issues.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with quality policies, procedures, and instructions to ensure product quality, customer satisfaction, attainment of business goals, and environmental well-being.
  • Create product technical documentation for design, application, site visit reports, and product bulletins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical-related degree.
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, with advanced capability in Excel being a strong plus.
  • 8 years of industry experience and deep technical knowledge of centrifugal chiller, screw chiller, or related industrial equipment (engines, compressors, generators, turbines, etc.) or demonstrate an ability to quickly gain industry knowledge and fully assume the responsibilities described in this job description.
  • Experience in refrigeration system design and cycle analysis; chiller design experience is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of refrigerant properties and PH diagram analysis.
  • Experience and expertise in reading, interpreting, and creating PID diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Experience in creating effective control logic, sequences of operation, and programming for multi-purpose PLC (Siemens, Carel, Danfoss MCX, or other) or dedicated controllers of complex electromechanical devices in real-time.
  • Basic knowledge of common electronic controls integration protocols including but not limited to Modbus, RS232, RS485, and CAN bus.
  • Demonstrated capability in the control of complicated electro-mechanical systems or products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills capable of creating clear and concise documentation of customer and internal communication.
