About the position

The Application Engineer at SKF is responsible for collaborating with a team of engineers to select and test SKF product solutions for specific applications. This role involves managing technical relationships with customers, promoting SKF's value proposition, and ensuring that engineering projects meet quality, cost, and performance standards. The engineer will also engage in continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical support to the sales team.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge in mechanical engineering to develop and implement bearing, seal, and lubrication solutions for customers in the Industrial Market.
  • Perform engineering calculations and system analysis using SKF simulation tools and bearing life calculation techniques.
  • Collaborate with sales, business development, quality, product development, and demand chain teams.
  • Drive engineering aspects from technical proposal to final production, ensuring quality, cost, and performance standards are met.
  • Coordinate with design and product engineering teams to facilitate DFMEA discussions with customers.
  • Analyze testing methodologies and recommend changes to improve product performance and cost efficiencies.
  • Conduct damage analysis and root cause evaluations on warranty or product development returns, driving continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the technical specialist/resource within the Industrial Sales Unit for SKF products and technologies.
  • Develop a framework for project management to gate, track, and prioritize projects.
  • Participate in and contribute to internal and external training sessions.
  • Assist in the development of training materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable degree.
  • 5+ years of design/application experience in an industrial environment, particularly in powertrain applications or rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of bearings, transmission products, or seals is beneficial.
  • Experience in Agriculture or off-highway/construction industries is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical hands-on and technical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with 3D solid modeling software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage projects with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Track record of proactive and continuous improvement within area of responsibility.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Outcome-oriented, critical thinker capable of prioritizing to achieve results.
