About the position

As an Applications Engineer/Technologist at 3M, you will leverage your technical expertise to lead customer interactions, understand their electrical requirements, and implement tailored solutions. This role involves collaborating with various teams to develop custom kits and ensure that all project documentation and materials are provided to meet customer expectations. You will play a crucial role in managing project plans and delivering innovative solutions in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer technical interactions to discover stakeholders' electrical requirements, timing, and delivery needs.
  • Communicate technical aspects of custom kits and applications in writing, verbally, and through field training.
  • Implement solutions based on customer needs, including evaluating one-line drawings and cable schedules.
  • Develop Bills of Materials for each custom kit.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, customer service, and sales teams to coordinate the creation and supply of customer solutions.
  • Execute and manage project plans in concert with customer expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of combined experience as a Field Engineer, Design Engineer, Estimator, Project Manager, or Superintendent on large capital projects.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage cable, splices, and terminations.
  • Familiarity with integrated systems including hardware, firmware, software, and communications protocols.
  • Understanding of equipment typically encountered on medium voltage projects, including switchgear, transformers, and motors.
  • Computer skills including MS Office tools and familiarity with CAD.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrated success working on cross-functional teams.
