About the position

The Application Engineer will be responsible for reviewing customer specifications to develop cost-effective automation solutions. This role involves specifying hardware, determining appropriate PLC models, and ensuring that automation equipment meets both company and customer standards. The engineer will collaborate with various departments to ensure that solutions align with capabilities and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer specifications to develop solutions using available hardware and costing.
  • Specify hardware and setup solutions for vision applications.
  • Determine the appropriate PLC models and manufacturers.
  • Identify electrical hardware to meet project requirements.
  • Choose pneumatic and hydraulic systems based on customer or company specifications.
  • Maintain the costing library for electrical hardware used in the automation industry.
  • Ensure robots meet company and customer specifications.
  • Adhere to the quoting process defined by the applications department.
  • Provide information on electrical standards to other engineers in the applications department.
  • Review vendor quotes and company quotations for accuracy.
  • Present machine control solutions to prospective customers.
  • Review machine concepts to ensure they meet safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with the shop and controls engineering department to ensure quotes align with capabilities and standard practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechatronics engineering or related engineering field.
  • Solid working knowledge of assembly and test automation industries.
  • Three years or more working with automation machine design and automation equipment (PLC, Robot, Servo, and machine vision programming).
  • One-year experience with AutoCAD or DraftSight.
  • Knowledge of worldwide electrical and safety standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiar with leak testing, machine building, mechanical aptitude, and generating costs of automation equipment.
  • Writing code in, I.E., C#, C++, Python, Dot Net, and VBA is a plus.
  • Database interface and hardware selection knowledge.
