About the position

The Application Engineer position is a critical role within SPX FLOW, responsible for providing comprehensive engineering, sales, and technical support to the sales organization, distributors, channel partners, and end users. This role involves the selection and quoting of equipment from the APV homogenizer line, offering technical information about the equipment and its applications, and assisting in troubleshooting field problems. The Application Engineer will also be tasked with delivering technical sales presentations and demonstrations to ensure proper equipment usage. In this position, the engineer will work to increase sales to existing accounts and expand business through cross-selling opportunities. Building and maintaining relationships with existing accounts is essential, as is sharing innovative ideas that can benefit customers. The role requires regular communication with sales channels to prepare sales quotations and proposals, which includes reviewing customer specifications and utilizing application data and pricing programs. Training sales representatives and customers through presentations and hands-on classes is also a key responsibility. The Application Engineer will attend meetings with clients and distributors to discuss product offerings and ensure customer expectations are met. This may involve occasional travel for sales calls. The engineer will also be responsible for understanding customer needs, resolving complaints, and advocating for customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role includes providing technical services related to equipment operation and maintenance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support product development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in meetings with clients, representatives, and distributors
  • Work with current and prospective sales representatives and customers to establish needs and specifications
  • Inform customers of technological improvements and advantages of using the company's products
  • Propose changes in equipment or materials for cost reduction or operational improvement
  • Attend to and advocate for customer needs
  • Achieve results by understanding customers' businesses and developing plans to meet their needs
  • Maintain control over sales and delivery processes prioritized by customers
  • Build and reinforce professional credibility with buyers and influencers
  • Provide technical services and support to customers
  • Resolve customer complaints and warranty issues
  • Aid in the design and development of equipment and systems
  • Coordinate testing of product samples from end-users
  • Work with cross-functional teams to research and report on product capabilities against competitors
  • Collaborate with other Application Engineers, Sales Managers, and Manufacturer's Representatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field
  • 2 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and fluid dynamics
  • Solid mathematical skills including basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to provide quality customer service and resolve complaints
  • Ability to articulate and present ideas and product demonstrations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites
