About the position

The Application Engineer at Cleaver-Brooks is responsible for developing design information and performance ratings for industrial water tube boilers and heat recovery steam generators. This role involves collaborating with a cross-functional team, providing technical support, and ensuring adherence to engineering standards and customer specifications. The position requires strong communication skills and a background in heat transfer or power plant design, along with the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design information and performance ratings for industrial water tube boilers and heat recovery steam generators.
  • Communicate technical knowledge related to assigned products to other departments.
  • Provide technical support to customers, consultant engineers, and company representatives.
  • Complete product design using customer specifications and initial design information from the sales department.
  • Prepare the project Bill of Materials (BOM) identifying major components of the unit.
  • Review project drawings and documentation for good engineering practices and compliance with company standards.
  • Evaluate design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Perform bid evaluations for mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct thermal calculations for industrial water tube boilers and HRSGs.
  • Support other functional departments with technical issues.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative working climate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of water tube boiler systems is desired.
  • Good working knowledge of 'Balance of Plant' equipment including fans, pumps, valves, and deaerators.
  • Knowledge of A.S.M.E. BPVC Section 1 is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in heat transfer or power plant design.
  • Ability to obtain a passport for travel.
