About the position

Mazak Corporation's Midwest Applications department is searching for an Applications Engineer to join the team. The Applications Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts and products efficiently and with robust quality. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, emphasizing the importance of safety in all operations. The Applications Engineer will be responsible for providing telephone and email customer support regarding the operation and use of Mazak products. This includes offering part processing and machine recommendations tailored to the specific part volumes required by customers. The role also involves calculating time study estimates of machine cycle times and determining the costs associated with manufacturing customer parts, which includes labor and tooling/work holding costs. Additionally, the engineer will conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacturing of customer parts. Demonstrating machine operation and features at trade shows and open house events is another key responsibility. The Applications Engineer will safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events, providing customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at customer facilities. Performing test cuts to demonstrate machine capability and proving processing concepts is essential, as is conducting full turnkey process development and testing, including statistical analysis of part measurements. This position requires approximately 15% travel to fulfill these responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively attain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Provide telephone/email customer support on the operation and use of Mazak products
  • Provide part processing/machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as per stated part volumes
  • Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time
  • Calculate cost to manufacture customer parts including labor and tooling/work holding costs
  • Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts
  • Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events
  • Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events
  • Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility

Requirements

  • Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years' experience in a related position is required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred
  • Strong ability to communicate both written and orally with upper management, vendors, and customers
  • Proven ability to effectively work in a team environment with other engineers
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel
  • Experience with Mazatrol, EIA/G-Code Programming, CAD/CAM Programming software, Esprit or Mastercam, Fusion 360 or other
