About the position

We are looking for an Application Engineer to evaluate and optimize OEM gas appliance performance. This role involves troubleshooting customer equipment issues, conducting performance testing on warm air furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and other combustion systems, and providing technical support for new gas ignition products. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading application and combustion test labs.

Responsibilities

  • Install and operate OEM appliances to evaluate new product concepts and appliance performance.
  • Perform customer requested testing to identify performance concerns and ensure product reliability.
  • Connect data acquisition equipment to collect appliance performance data for analysis and interpretation.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and diagnose root causes of performance issues.
  • Write detailed test plans, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain and upgrade lab test equipment to support ongoing evaluations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and marketing teams to enhance product development.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working with combustion appliances (furnaces, boilers, water heaters).
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude with knowledge of electrical circuits and gas plumbing.
  • Experience using hand and power tools for appliance installation and maintenance.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to document and convey test results effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to analyze failures and troubleshoot to determine root causes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and airflow dynamics.
  • Experience using electronic test tools and data acquisition equipment.
  • Experience with UL qualification testing, reliability testing, and developmental testing.
  • Familiarity with LabView software for data analysis.
