About the position

The Application Engineer at Thomasville Nordfab LLC plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of product and system designs specifically for air pollution control technology. This position requires the use of advanced two and three-dimensional CAD software to create and refine designs that meet customer specifications. The engineer will be involved in new product introductions, utilizing development practices to ensure that the products align with industry standards and customer needs. In this role, the engineer will create ducting system layouts and part designs, ensuring that all designs comply with standard air filtration system design parameters. While some of these skills may be taught on the job, a foundational understanding of product development is essential for managing new product opportunities effectively. The engineer will also be responsible for generating detailed drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and quotes for assigned projects, which are critical for both internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration is key in this position, as the engineer will work closely with the manufacturing team to document key part details and assist with part drawings. Additionally, the engineer will partner with the Inside Sales team to address any technical questions from customers, ensuring that all design requirements are met. Interaction with dealers and end-users is also a significant aspect of the role, as it helps to ensure that the designs fulfill the necessary specifications and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create ducting system layouts and part designs to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Use custom in-house CAD add-on to assist with design.
  • Ensure project design complies with standard air filtration system design parameters.
  • Manage development of new product opportunities using product development knowledge.
  • Generate drawings, BOM, and quotes for assigned projects.
  • Assist manufacturing with part drawings to document key part details for manufacturing.
  • Partner with Inside Sales to address customers' technical questions.
  • Interact with dealers and end users to ensure design requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Two to four years of industrial experience in mechanical design and new product development.
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in mechanical design and drafting.
  • Expert user of AutoCAD Inventor Software.
  • Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings and print layouts.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Desired CFD modeling experience.
  • Ability to learn new graphic software to complement the presentation of new Inventor designs.
  • Detail-oriented to avoid design errors and omissions.
