About the position

The Applications Engineer position is a vital role within a growing company located in Michigan City, Indiana. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to be part of a collaborative team that values collective goals and fosters strong relationships. The Applications Engineer will be responsible for preparing customer quotations and providing essential sales support specifically for industrial automation customers. This role is primarily on-site, with an expected travel requirement of 10-20%. In this position, the Applications Engineer will act as the product expert, supporting the sales team during customer interactions, whether through emails, calls, or in-person visits. A key responsibility will be to analyze customer applications and recommend tailored solutions to their control system challenges, leveraging the company's product offerings and core competencies. The role will also involve meeting with customers to conduct site surveys of industrial automation control systems, which will help in understanding project opportunities and gathering necessary information to collaborate with project engineers and managers in developing effective solutions that meet customer requirements. The Applications Engineer will utilize their industry process knowledge and product application expertise to recommend optimal solutions for customers. Additionally, they will prepare system configuration drawings and commercial and technical proposals by studying system schematics, specifications, plans, and related customer documents, while consulting with engineers and other technical personnel. Presenting technical and commercial proposals to customers and following up with existing clients to foster new business relationships will also be crucial aspects of this role, as the engineer will support multiple locations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Support sales team as the product expert during customer emails, calls, or visits.
  • Analyze customer applications and recommend solutions to their control system challenges based on the company's product offering and core competencies.
  • Meet with customers and conduct site surveys of industrial automation control systems to gain understanding of project opportunities.
  • Gather information needed to work with project engineers/managers to develop solutions to address customer requirements.
  • Use industry process knowledge and product application expertise to recommend solutions for customers.
  • Prepare system configuration drawings, commercial and technical proposals by studying system schematics, specifications, plans, and related customer documents.
  • Consult with engineers and other professional and technical personnel to develop proposals.
  • Present technical/commercial proposals to customers.
  • Follow-up with existing customers and foster new business relationships; supporting multiple locations as required.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience in industrial automation.
  • Experience working with PLC, AC & DC Drive systems, and HMI products.
  • Metals processing knowledge is strongly preferred.
