About the position

SeK ON is seeking an Application Programmer to support NIH NIDCD IT Services. The role involves developing and enhancing multiple applications in an enterprise environment, focusing on modernization, system interfaces, and usability upgrades. The programmer will work with various technologies and contribute to both front-end and back-end development, ensuring high-quality software solutions for federal government customers.

Responsibilities

• Perform design, coding, configuration, and unit testing.
• Work on problems related to modernization, system interfaces, scalability, usability, and accessibility upgrades.
• Develop software using Java, J2EE, Eclipse or NetBeans IDEs, JSP, SOA, XML Beans, Struts/Spring, Hibernate/ibatis, Maven/Ant, WebLogic, and Apache Tomcat.
• Engage in day-to-day work with multi-tier web-based applications and user interfaces.
• Handle relational databases (Oracle) and REST/SOAP Services.
• Contribute to and consume Open-Source projects.
• Utilize problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills to tackle complex issues.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software experience, both front and back-end development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Web Design, IT, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in developing and maintaining applications.
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to be innovative with strong interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented and organized in development and documentation.
• Ability to thrive in a team-based environment.
• Problem-solving aptitude.
• Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Experience with project management tools (JIRA).
• Knowledge of JIRA and version control systems.
• Experience in re-architecting legacy applications.
• Familiarity with automation testing tools such as JUnit.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI-driven tools to enhance productivity.
