The company is seeking a creative Application Sales-Project Engineer to join their team in Rockford, Illinois. This full-time position combines two key roles: an automated assembly Machine Designer & Project Engineer and an Application Sales Engineer (Proposal Engineer). The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing order-winning sales proposals for customers looking for automated assembly machinery solutions. This involves taking customer requests for quotations (RFQs), analyzing technical details, and creating comprehensive quotations that meet the specific needs of the customer. The Application Engineer will work closely with the sales staff to ensure that all customer inquiries are addressed promptly and effectively. This role requires a deep understanding of the latest technologies and the ability to optimize Dixon's standard stations to propose efficient machine plans. The engineer will also be expected to present proposals to customers and secure orders, as well as visit customer facilities to solicit and present proposals. On the Project Engineer side, the role involves transforming customer specifications and purchase orders into assembly machines that exceed expectations. This includes managing the project through design, build, and testing phases to meet cost, performance, and delivery requirements. The engineer will work with company managers and staff to design tooling that combines standard assembly stations with original fixture and component designs. The machines may vary from simple fixtures to complex robotic assemblies and other advanced mechanisms. Additionally, the company sells automation products and stations to machine integrators, requiring collaboration to ensure successful integration into their systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare order-winning sales proposals for automated assembly machinery solutions.
  • Support the sales staff by analyzing customer RFQs and technical details.
  • Create comprehensive quotations based on customer requirements and specifications.
  • Present proposals to customers and secure orders as directed by sales management.
  • Visit customer facilities to solicit and present proposals as needed.
  • Manage projects from design through build and testing phases to meet customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with company managers and staff to ensure project success.
  • Design tooling that combines standard assembly stations with original designs.
  • Work with machine integrators to ensure successful integration of automation products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in sales engineering or project engineering, preferably in automated machinery.
  • Strong understanding of automated assembly processes and technologies.
  • Ability to create detailed technical proposals and quotations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for designing machinery and tooling.
  • Strong project management skills to oversee design and build phases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the electrical, electronic, automotive, or medical industries.
  • Familiarity with robotic assembly and servo mechanisms.
