About the position

The Software Engineering Lead (.NET) at WoodmenLife is a pivotal role responsible for leading a team of developers in the insurance industry. The lead will oversee the technical direction, ensuring quality delivery of software solutions while collaborating with architects and stakeholders to convert requirements into actionable designs. The role is integral to enhancing the software engineering practice and making a significant impact on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader on a delivery team.
  • Partner with architects to convert requirements into software architectures and designs.
  • Break down requirements into an actionable backlog for the delivery team.
  • Lead and ensure quality delivery of business value through development and deployment of technology solutions.
  • Oversee technology implementations and improvement activities for defined applications.
  • Build and refine the work backlog for technically focused deliverables.
  • Lead scope of work estimation and forecasting for development stories and tasks.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications and design artifacts.
  • Research and stay current with technology and system design trends.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced software engineers.

Requirements

  • 10 years of software development experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with relational databases, including database schema design.
  • Experience with Git.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information succinctly to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of SOLID principles.
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and systems integration code.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft C# and .Net 8 or Java with Spring Framework.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working on an Agile team.
  • Experience designing and building software systems using the IDesign methodology.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, or Cloud Foundry.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD principles.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Azure PaaS technologies.
