About the position

The Applications Developer (PFAS) position is a temporary role for up to one year, focused on collaborating with the Information Technology and Research departments to develop and maintain specialized applications. The role involves full-stack web application development, database management, and support for the Office of Water Programs' website and internal data processing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with applications developers and research engineers in the implementation of new software, often for web-based applications.
  • Develops Full-Stack web applications using React.js, TypeScript, Flask, SQL Alchemy, Python, and Tailwind CSS.
  • Designs and administers advanced SQL Server databases using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Develops T-SQL reports and web interfaces to support environmental science research.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots existing Full-Stack PHP, React.js, and ASP applications and SQL Server databases.
  • May supervise undergraduate students.
  • Undertakes additional programming projects as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in web application development.
  • Proficiency with React.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and CSS.
  • Proficiency with Flask, SQL Alchemy, and Python.
  • Proficiency with relational database administration (SQL Server preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, interpersonal skills, and skills to effectively function as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well as part of a small development team.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and maintaining sensitive, confidential information.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and see projects through to completion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with research environmental scientists.
  • Experience working in state grant funded web application development projects.
