About the position

The Applications Developer position at the Vehicle Spectrum Dominance Department in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University involves designing, developing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining software applications. The role focuses on creating secure, automated infrastructure solutions for high-performance computing environments using Agile software development methodologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a team to enhance existing applications and integrate new features, while also managing CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure, automated infrastructure solutions for high-performance computing environments.
  • Work as part of a team to perform and review pull requests, unit tests, and documentation as needed.
  • Maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for frequent deployments of infrastructure code.
  • Configure and optimize compute resources and networks, including bare metal and virtualized/container environments.
  • Provide demonstrations of work to internal teams and external customers.
  • Coordinate with the team to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years' related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience for the advanced professional level.
  • Software programming experience with high-level programming languages such as Python or C++, MATLAB.
  • Experience with configuration management, issue tracking, and testing tools.
  • Cisco Security+, CCNA Certifications in Routing, Switching, and Enterprise level network management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Linux-based infrastructures and system administration.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and practices.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation via scripting languages such as Ansible or Puppet.
  • Configuration management experience using Git, Bitbucket, or GitLab.
  • Familiarity with container/orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills and good communication skills.
