About the position

The Applications Engineer II position at Kirkland & Ellis is a critical role within the Risk Applications Technology department, focusing on the analysis, evaluation, and implementation of business systems and technical processes. This position requires a unique blend of functional understanding and technical proficiency to deliver leadership, guidance, and innovative solutions that meet the business needs of the organization. The Applications Engineer II will provide a deep understanding of applications, ensuring they are effectively used and integrated within the firm’s operations. Key responsibilities include ensuring accurate documentation of application environments, troubleshooting application issues, performing maintenance and upgrade processes, and coordinating the installation and integration of business applications and data. The role also involves providing Level 3 operational support for the firm's Risk Applications technology, with some instances requiring Level 2 support. The engineer will investigate operational problems and provide resolutions using analytical skills and tools. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Applications Engineer II will collaborate with professionals at all levels of the organization, vendors, and business partners. They will utilize SQL query tools for data analysis, adhere to the firm’s security and governance requirements, and develop quality control reports to ensure regulatory compliance. The position requires a commitment to providing 24x7 operational support, with on-call responsibilities rotated among team members. This hybrid role allows for a mixture of in-office and remote work, promoting flexibility while maintaining productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 3 operational or systematic support and maintenance for the Firm's Risk Applications technology departmental applications.
  • Investigate operational or systematic problems and provide resolution using routine analytical skills and tools as necessary.
  • Coordinate and implement new components and upgrades to departmental applications, including integration and support of business applications and data.
  • Adhere to the Firm's Security and Governance requirements across all administered applications.
  • Collaborate with professionals at all levels of the organization, vendors, and business partners.
  • Utilize SQL query tools to perform frequent data analysis across various systems, providing clear and accurate data to business users.
  • Adhere to the Firm's IT Service Delivery standards and Change Control processes.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting and configuration documentation for administered systems.
  • Develop or enhance quality control reports and electronic monitoring to assure regulatory and data quality compliance.
  • Collaborate with business users in designing and implementing analytics to help them interpret their data in order to make better business decisions.
  • Write functional and technical specifications including application design changes and integrations for development.
  • Gather information, design, develop, test and implement high-quality, user-friendly solutions to meet the Firm's goals and strategic objectives.
  • Provide 24x7 operational support, with on-call support responsibilities rotated among team members.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience with 5+ years' experience of application support/configuration in a legal environment.
  • Good judgment, problem-solving, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and build positive working relationships.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task and effectively prioritize competing demands.
  • Experience with SQL Query is required.
  • Experience with Risk applications such as Intapp Product Suite (Intake, Conflicts, Terms, Workspaces, Walls, Time), File Retention and Disposition (iCompli), Court Docketing (CompuLaw, Court Alert) is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Powershell scripting is preferred.
