About the position

The Applications Engineer II at Clever Devices is responsible for designing robust system solutions that integrate various hardware products into vehicle and back office systems. This role involves creating high-quality cable harnesses and component mounting solutions while ensuring compliance with safety, structural, and operational requirements. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare engineered solutions for the transit industry, including creating technical documents and visiting customer sites to tailor solutions to specific applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop systems and components for transit applications.
  • Create electronic drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Prepare installation instructions and other technical documents according to industry standards.
  • Visit customer sites to assess vehicle compartments and design tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering and product management to ensure design accuracy.
  • Review and verify design drawings and technical documentation for correctness.
  • Manage, train, and supervise staff or contractors for equipment installation.
  • Generate and structure BOMs in an MRP system.
  • Critique the quality of work performed by peers and vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of design experience using 2D or 3D Modeling CAD systems.
  • Experience with Zuken E3 Harness Builder, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of engineering and design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with design, engineering, and fabrication of components preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand OEM vehicle wiring schematics and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of heavy vehicle wiring and systems, particularly Transit Buses and/or RAIL.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creativity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cable harnessing and sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with transit industry standards and practices.
