About the position

The Applications Engineer I plays a crucial role in supporting the Sales team by providing technical expertise throughout the sales process. This position involves defining equipment configurations and specifications in collaboration with customers and internal resources, ensuring that all process requirements are met. The Applications Engineer I is also responsible for offering strategic guidance to product development teams, helping to shape future product offerings based on customer feedback and market needs. In this role, the engineer will present EVG technology to prospective customers through various channels, including in-person visits, phone calls, and online meetings. A deep understanding of customer requirements, such as process capability, performance, and cost of ownership, is essential. The engineer will work closely with the sales management team to develop tailored equipment configurations and validate technical performance specifications with customers. Additionally, the Applications Engineer I will conduct equipment and process demonstrations, provide technical application support both remotely and onsite, and attend trade shows and technical conferences to promote EVG products. The role also includes creating technical reports, authoring technical papers, and analyzing the scope of work for process demonstrations and contract services. The engineer will be expected to research and report on the capabilities of company products and competing equipment, aiding in the design and development of new systems and the redesign of existing ones to meet customer needs. Travel is a significant aspect of this position, with expectations of up to 70% domestic and international travel. The engineer must possess a valid passport and be physically capable of operating company vehicles safely. Overall, this role requires a proactive approach to customer engagement and a commitment to providing high-quality technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Presents EVG technology to prospective customers during visits, phone conversations, and online meetings.
  • Seeks to understand customer requirements (process capability, performance, cost of ownership, etc.) as thoroughly as possible.
  • Develops equipment configurations with the customer and the sales management team.
  • Validates technical equipment performance specifications (acceptance criteria) with customers.
  • Conducts equipment and process demonstrations with process engineers.
  • Provides technical application support to customers (remotely and onsite), sales, and service staff.
  • Attends trade shows and technical conferences.
  • Creates technical reports and authors technical papers.
  • Analyzes the scope of work for process demonstrations and contract services.
  • Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of company products and competing equipment.
  • Aids in the design and development of equipment and systems, and redesign of existing systems to fulfill the needs of customers.
  • Provides equipment functionality and capability reports to the Sales team and acts as a technical liaison to the Sales team.

Requirements

  • Four-year Engineering degree with a minimum of seven (7) years of working experience in semiconductor processing, or an advanced degree and five (5) years of working experience in semiconductor processing.
  • Experience with EVG relevant technology is preferable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to all levels within a customer organization.
  • Fully competent in MS Office software.
  • Proficiency with JMP is required.
  • Experience in the area of capital equipment for the semiconductor industry.
  • Preferable experience in semiconductor processing for MEMS, IC, LED, or Semiconductor applications.
  • Project Management skills for small projects.
  • Preferred to have Kepner-Tregoe Problem Solving Decision Management training.
