The Applications Engineer Senior I position at Kirkland & Ellis is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise with functional understanding to support the build, configuration, testing, and maintenance of finance and procurement cloud applications. This role is essential for ensuring that the firm's applications not only meet current business needs but also adapt to evolving requirements. The successful candidate will leverage their technical guidance and engineering best practices to enhance the functionality and security of these applications, ensuring they align with the firm's operational standards and security policies. In this role, the engineer will apply high-level technical skills to investigate and resolve operational or systematic problems, utilizing analytical tools as necessary. They will be responsible for testing and deploying security application solutions across various cloud platforms, serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the applications in scope. The engineer will strategically manage the application lifecycles, ensuring that they are maintained, monitored, and performing optimally to meet business requirements. This includes identifying and mitigating risks associated with cloud systems and developing new features to address changing security needs. Collaboration is key in this position, as the engineer will work closely with professionals at all levels of the organization, providing technical support and guidance to other teams and stakeholders. They will also mentor peers to foster high performance within the team. The role requires staying updated with the latest trends in cloud security and adhering to the firm's IT Service Delivery standards and Change Control processes. Additionally, the engineer will provide 24x7 operational support, with on-call responsibilities rotated among team members, ensuring that the firm's finance and procurement applications are always operational and secure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the Firm's Finance applications using technical expertise and problem-solving skills.
  • Investigate operational or systematic problems and provide resolutions using analytical skills and tools.
  • Test and deploy security application solutions using various cloud platforms and technologies.
  • Serve as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the applications in scope.
  • Implement and enforce risk policies and standards, security policies and standards, and best practices for cloud environments.
  • Manage application lifecycles by overseeing maintenance, monitoring, and performance to meet business requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and threats to cloud systems.
  • Develop new features and enhancements to meet changing security needs.
  • Manage and monitor the Procurement and Finance applications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other teams and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and developments in cloud security.
  • Adhere to the Firm's Security and Governance requirements across all administered applications.
  • Collaborate with professionals at all levels of the organization.
  • Mentor peers to ensure high performance.
  • Utilize SQL query tools for data analysis across various systems.
  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to document and contribute to application roadmaps.
  • Adhere to the Firm's IT Service Delivery standards and Change Control processes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive troubleshooting and configuration documentation for administered systems.
  • Provide 24x7 operational support, with on-call responsibilities rotated among team members.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience with 5+ years' experience in cloud computing or application support/configuration of Procurement and Finance applications.
  • Experience with Finance and Procurement related applications such as Elite 3E, Coupa, MetricStream, One Trust, and SpendConnect is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud security concepts, principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with various cloud platforms and services such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.
  • Familiarity with support and testing solutions such as ServiceNow and Jira.
  • Experience with finance and procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with API middleware such as MuleSoft, and/or flat file ETLs such as ADF, as well as experience reviewing and interpreting field mapping documents and swim lane diagrams.
  • Experience in using cloud security tools and technologies such as IAM, encryption, firewall, VPN, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Good judgment, problem-solving, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Reporting Services.
  • Familiarity with Postman and Windows Server and Desktop operating system environments.
