About the position

The Applications Engineer serves as the primary technical resource for DRS' cooled infrared cameras, providing technical guidance and support to customers and internal teams. This role involves engaging in both hardware and software aspects of infrared camera development, ensuring customer needs are met through accurate quotations and technical solutions. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a sales-driven mindset, with responsibilities spanning pre-sales and post-sales activities.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue design opportunities and support customers' design efforts
  • Answer RFQs and technical questions from customers
  • Technically qualify customer requests for quotation to ensure alignment with application needs
  • Identify product or service gaps and define solutions
  • Ensure customer quotations are technically accurate and commercially verified
  • Provide technical oversight and troubleshooting for customers
  • Advise on technical solutions and benefits
  • Act as technical lead for customer-driven hardware and software solutions
  • Interface with engineering teams regarding technical sales and roadmap alignment
  • Maintain a complete technical documentation library
  • Prepare and support technical seminars and customer presentations
  • Support existing customers with technology updates
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel at DRS
  • Communicate with manufacturing locations regarding lead-time and specials
  • Attend customer meetings and site visits as required
  • Participate in relevant technical and commercial training
  • Support RMA and FRB teams and drive investigations for root cause and corrective actions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field (BSEE or BSCS)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong customer relations skills
  • Ability to multitask

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Experience developing applications with Visual Basic 6.0 or VBA
  • Experience developing applications with C/C++
  • Experience with MATLAB or other numerical computing environments
  • Experience with automation of test and measurement devices
  • Experience with PCB tools such as Orcad
