Hobbs & Associates is seeking a dedicated Applications Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Columbia, MD. The Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in coordinating and leveraging the Hobbs brand, support groups, and product partners to effectively communicate pricing and functional deliverables of all represented products to our customers. The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive understanding of Hobbs & Associates products and solutions, fostering positive relationships with product representatives, leadership, and employee teams. This position requires the ability to create partnerships with salespeople and customers to identify and deliver high-value solutions, manage technical inquiries, and ensure timely and accurate client responses. In addition to these responsibilities, the Applications Engineer will conduct facility walkthroughs, interpret construction plans and design specifications, prepare system layouts, generate product estimates and client proposals, and provide exceptional project fulfillment support. The role demands excellent communication skills, the ability to function independently, and effective time management to meet project deadlines, including bid and submittal schedules. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities, allowing the engineer to focus on technical and client-facing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop general working knowledge of Hobbs & Associates products and solutions.
  • Develop positive relationships with product representatives, Hobbs & Associates leadership, and employee teams.
  • Create partnerships with salespeople and customers to identify and create high-value deliverables.
  • Manage technical questions and communicate accurate and timely client responses.
  • Periodically perform facility walkthroughs.
  • Interpret construction plans and design specifications to understand project constraints to product applications.
  • Prepare system layout as required.
  • Generate timely and accurate product estimates and client proposals.
  • Review proposals with salespeople and customers.
  • Provide best-in-class and on-time project fulfillment support for all products sold.
  • Coordinate and deliver product submittals.
  • Communicate responses to questions associated with the development of an approved submittal.
  • Champion equipment orders and schedule coordination.
  • Follow through of product change requirements throughout the fulfillment process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in a technical or business-related field is preferred.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Ability to travel within a locally defined region at least 10% of the time.
  • Ability to function independently and has excellent time management skills to meet project deadlines including project bid and submittal schedules.
