About the position

The Applications Engineer at Nucor is a pivotal role focused on providing technical support primarily through customer quotations and business development case studies for various composite applications. This position requires a deep understanding of customer requirements and the ability to quickly demonstrate how composite-based solutions can be effectively utilized. The engineer will be responsible for preparing proposals that include detailed costing, timing, and resource allocation, ensuring that all customer needs are met efficiently and effectively. In addition to customer support, the Applications Engineer will create and maintain a drawing database using AutoCad and Inventor. This includes providing submittal drawings to the sales team and detailed component drawings to suppliers for production. The role necessitates collaboration with engineering, sales, dealers, and end users to fully understand design requirements and ensure that all specifications are met. A critical aspect of the job is the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints, as well as a solid knowledge of electric motors, which will aid in providing comprehensive customer support regarding door installation, troubleshooting, and electrical wiring. Safety is paramount at Nucor, and the Applications Engineer must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for customer quotations and business development case studies.
  • Understand customer requirements and demonstrate composite-based solutions.
  • Prepare proposals including costing, timing, and resources.
  • Create and maintain drawing database using AutoCad and Inventor.
  • Provide submittal drawings to sales using AutoCad.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other comparable engineering degree.
  • 3 years in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • 1 year of Continuous Improvement or Lean/Six Sigma experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Operational knowledge of condition monitoring and associated applications.
  • Solid understanding of designing engineering solutions.
