About the position

The Applications Engineer at Ingevity will play a crucial role in providing technical support to promote the use and sale of specialty chemical products, particularly in the carbon technologies application areas. This position involves developing and analyzing data related to the control of evaporative emissions from automotive fuel systems, as well as other applications involving liquid and gas phase carbon adsorption, such as process purification and renewable natural gas (RNG) technologies. The engineer will be responsible for preparing technical data, reports, and presentations to be shared with customers and utilized internally within the company. Under the guidance of a Senior Applications Engineer or Manager, the Applications Engineer will offer technical expertise to both internal and external customers, ensuring their development, retention, and satisfaction. Key responsibilities include designing, installing, and maintaining evaporative emissions test equipment, as well as designing experiments to generate data that supports the sale of bulk and specialty shaped activated carbon materials. The engineer will collaborate closely with lab personnel to troubleshoot and debug issues with products and test equipment, ensuring effective communication with the technical and sales teams to address customer and regulatory concerns. Additionally, the Applications Engineer will interact with the global quality department and manufacturing plants to resolve customer complaints and validate operational improvement projects. Providing customer support on technical and quality issues, including troubleshooting and testing at customer sites, is a vital part of this role. The engineer will also define material specifications through direct customer interaction and educate customers on how activated carbon can effectively control automotive evaporative emissions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to promote specialty chemical products in carbon technologies application areas.
  • Develop and analyze data related to evaporative emissions control from automotive fuel systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
  • Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or related field is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial experience or equivalent is required.
  • Process/product development and technical knowledge in adsorption and related fields is desired.
  • Strong customer contact and service skills, with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • High competency in technical skills and strong documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Mastery of evaporative emissions/adsorption technology to provide technical support for customers.
  • Ability to effectively manage laboratory data generated by applications laboratory.
