About the position

The Applications Engineer will serve as a key player in the development and design of laid scrim technical fabrics, collaborating with various teams including customers, product managers, and R&D. This role focuses on providing technical guidance and ensuring smooth transitions from product design to manufacturing, acting as a liaison among different departments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees new product development of laid scrim technical fabrics through design phase and machine trials, as well as their transition to routine production.
  • Researches and recommends changes to manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and/or reduce costs, increase product quality, or provide greater personal and/or environmental safety.
  • Provides technical guidance to manufacturing to address production problems and to customers, including through direct visits as needed.
  • Performs technical evaluations of vendors and equipment.
  • Generates technical and economic justifications for the implementation of new processes, methods, and equipment.
  • Runs experiments and tests to aid in the development of processing systems, using computer-assisted engineering and design software as needed.
  • Collaborates with Process Engineering in reviewing customer special requirements and generates appropriate processes and methods to accommodate and implement them successfully.
  • Generates and is fully conversant with Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Process Data Sheets.
  • Prepares and approves design documents and plant modifications in accordance with approved procedures, processes, and design requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities, and programs to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Understands Lean Manufacturing Principles (Kaizen, 5S, Pilot Projects) and participates in Continuous Improvements methodology as it relates to WCM initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
  • 3-5 years of work-related skill and experience in Applications or Mechanical Engineering, or in a similar capacity in a Manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proven ability to design, manage, and implement projects of a technical nature is required.
  • Team facilitation and project management experience are essential to this job.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and troubleshooting abilities are necessary.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/SolidWorks or related applications is necessary.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time is required to support sales and development with customer visits and/or for company meetings.
