About the position

Dana Yorktown, IN is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Applications Engineer. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and strategic support to the Dana SAC Sales team and customers, addressing inquiries related to all of Dana's industrial product lines and their proper applications. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external clients. The Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that customer specifications are met and that the products are applied correctly in various industrial settings. This position also involves some travel to meet with clients and stakeholders as necessary. In this role, the Applications Engineer will provide leadership for Dana's internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, while always upholding Dana's core values and policies. The engineer will be responsible for developing design proposals that meet customer specifications, certifications, and documentation requirements. This includes specification analysis, selection, estimating costs, and preparing quotations. The engineer will liaise with the Dana Global Industrial team when necessary to ensure that all aspects of the project are covered. The Applications Engineer will manage the entire project management process for complex applications and products, which may include external items from third-party suppliers such as motors, sensors, and specially designed components. The role also involves preparing and conducting technical presentations for both customers and internal Dana teams. The engineer will provide technical and tactical leadership, collaborating with various internal functions such as Program Management, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, and Engineering Management during the design, sourcing, application, and production phases. Additionally, the Applications Engineer will support the Quality and After-market team by providing technical problem-solving assistance to address issues quickly, both in the field and in-house. The engineer will work directly with Dana's Global Product Engineering team to develop and test new products as required to meet local North American market demands. This position also contributes to the development of Dana SAC's internal functions by highlighting critical issues, enabling corrective measures, and producing technical and training documentation, as well as leading internal courses as an instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for Dana's internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, while upholding Dana's core values and policies.
  • Develop design proposals to meet customer specifications, certifications, and documentation requirements.
  • Manage the entire project management process of complex applications and products with dedicated scope requirements.
  • Prepare and conduct technical presentations for customers and internal teams.
  • Provide technical and tactical leadership to collaborate with internal functions during design, sourcing, application, and production.
  • Participate in negotiations to assure technical support to the Sales Network.
  • Support the Quality and After-market team with product and application technical problem solving.
  • Work with Dana's Global Product Engineering team to develop and test new products for the North American market.
  • Contribute to internal functions development by highlighting critical issues and enabling corrective measures.

Requirements

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and strong analytical capability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within Dana.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Prior project management experience with strong customer relationship skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated individual willing to accept responsibility.
  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited university preferred, or other engineering degrees with strong experience in Power Transmission systems.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in the Power Transmission Sector, specifically with industrial gearboxes and hydraulic systems.
