About the position

The CNC Applications Engineer role involves providing technical support and consultation to customers in the CNC manufacturing industry. This position requires significant travel (40-60%) to install and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring they receive tailored guidance and support for their CNC machines. The engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting complex manufacturing processes, conducting time studies, and generating CNC programs for parts processing.

Responsibilities

  • Travel weekly to install and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Deliver tailored customer consultations and guidance for long-term relationships.
  • Provide technical support in person or over the phone for customers, sales, and trade shows for CNC Machines.
  • Assist with design and fabrication, demos, test cuts, and turnkeys.
  • Define and troubleshoot complex manufacturing/machining processes.
  • Conduct time estimates for customer parts with a 10% tolerance.
  • Complete time studies and machine demonstrations per customer requirements.
  • Participate in training activities with senior colleagues, internal academy, and external resources.
  • Generate CNC programs for parts processing using industry-standard CAM systems and direct G-Code/Macro programming.
  • Set up CNC machines with program, tooling, workpiece, and fixtures, including 5-axis and mill-turn.
  • Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy, generating engineering reports and technical documentation.
  • Communicate frequently with internal technical staff, external customers, and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Experience with a variety of CNC Machine cutting tools desired.
  • Machinist competence with knowledge in part processing, metal cutting, CNC programming, reading drawings, and machine setup.
  • Minimum 3 to 10+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in Mastercam, Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi or similar, particularly with 5-axis CNC.
  • Basic understanding of Metallurgy.
  • Proven experience in communicating professionally with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degrees in engineering or related fields (not required).
  • Familiarity with Esprix, Mastercam, Power Mill, or NX.
