About the position

Silvus Technologies is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our customer-facing Sales Engineering team. This role is pivotal in conducting a wide range of technical activities related to applications and solutions engineering, as well as providing customer and sales support. The Applications Engineer will collaborate closely with customers and the Sales team to drive product development, enabling the creation of cutting-edge systems and technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and testing new products and features, assisting customers and the sales team with technical support requests, performing technical analysis, and integrating systems to engineer complete solutions for complex problems. In this position, you will work closely with internal engineering teams and provide in-person support, which may involve up to 25% travel, both domestically and internationally. The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of three days on-site each week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at Silvus Technologies' headquarters located in West Los Angeles, CA. The Applications Engineer will also be responsible for designing and testing complete solutions to address unique technical challenges, defining new products and features, and conducting product evaluations and field trials. Additionally, the role involves providing comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via various communication channels. You will also create and maintain customer-facing documentation, oversee the RMA and Loaner teams, and assist in preparing for demos, training, and testing. This position is essential for ensuring that our products meet the high standards required for mission-critical applications in challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and test complete solutions that solve unique technical problems.
  • Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform product evaluations and field trials for new product features and accessories.
  • Provide comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via phone, online, and in person.
  • Work individually and with Engineering teams to support these requests via in-house or field testing and validation.
  • Test and harden existing features through firmware and hardware changes in realistic applications.
  • Support the Sales Engineering team by helping prepare for demos, training, testing, or recreating bugs and issues they see in the field.
  • Create and maintain customer-facing documents and content including manuals, guides, videos, application notes, etc. to support customers and sales more efficiently.
  • Oversee and assist the RMA and Loaner teams by providing guidance, equipment recommendations, and vetting customer requests.
  • Travel requirements - Up to 25% travel to provide in-person engineering support to customers and the sales team, including demos, troubleshooting, system integration, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
  • Proficiency in instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and other RF and data network test equipment and testing.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers and internally across the entire organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to details.
  • Proficiency with PC office applications and mobile devices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel and work at customer sites.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with TCP/IP protocol and networking.
  • Experience with operating and testing IP radios/modems.
  • Knowledge of wireless communication systems, RF signal propagation, and digital communication technologies.
  • Experience in testing Embedded radio communication systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or C/C+.
