About the position

Element Solutions Inc, through its MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions division, is seeking an Applications Engineer to join their dynamic team in Piscataway, New Jersey. This role is pivotal in driving technical innovation and support across a variety of projects and materials that are essential to the electronics industry. The company has a rich legacy of over a century, focusing on revolutionizing the electronics sector with high-quality solutions and technical services that span the entire electronics supply chain. The Applications Engineer will be involved in core product areas such as solder paste, underfills, conformal coatings, and sintered materials, contributing to diverse market segments including Automotive, LED packaging, Medical, Consumer electronics, Communication assembly, and Flexible/Formable Printed Electronics. In this position, the Applications Engineer will execute established test methods and procedures with precision, while also innovating and developing new testing techniques that align with the marketing strategy and address specific customer needs. The role involves exploring emerging technologies and adjusting test methods to meet application requirements. The engineer will conduct internal screening tests to evaluate product performance, validate products to ensure they meet project objectives, and lead the creation and validation of test vehicles for material characterization. Additionally, the engineer will showcase the feasibility and performance of materials through assembly, performance, reliability testing, and failure analyses on external test vehicles. The use of advanced analytical equipment such as Electron and Optical Microscopy, X-ray, and Acoustic Imaging will be integral to the role. Collaboration is key, as the Applications Engineer will work closely with component suppliers, equipment vendors, and assembly partners to develop comprehensive solutions for customers. Reporting on project progress, authoring technical papers, and presenting findings at conferences will also be part of the responsibilities. The engineer will engage with R&D, marketing, and sales teams to address technical issues and support product development and launches, ensuring that projects are prioritized and executed effectively to drive product approvals and new product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Execute established test methods and procedures with precision.
  • Innovate and develop new testing techniques and technologies to align with marketing strategy and address specific customer or market segment needs.
  • Explore and experiment with emerging technologies and adjust test methods to meet application and customer requirements.
  • Conduct internal screening tests to evaluate the performance of products and materials for new applications.
  • Validate products to ensure they meet project objectives and performance standards.
  • Lead the creation and validation of test vehicles and methodologies for material characterization in targeted applications.
  • Showcase the feasibility and performance of materials to customers and partners by conducting assembly, performance, reliability testing, and failure analyses on external test vehicles.
  • Utilize advanced analytical equipment such as Electron and Optical Microscopy, X-ray, and Acoustic Imaging.
  • Assist in the maintenance and calibration of research and test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Collaborate with component suppliers, equipment vendors, and assembly partners to develop comprehensive solutions for customers.
  • Report on project progress, author technical papers, and present at conferences as required.
  • Engage with R&D, marketing, and sales teams to address technical issues and support product development and launches.
  • Work closely with Product Development and Marketing teams to prioritize, plan, and execute projects that drive product approvals and new product introductions.

Requirements

  • A BS degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a technical role.
  • Experience with printed electronics or flexible circuits is a strong plus.
  • Technical expertise in executing test methods and using advanced equipment like Electron Microscopy and X-ray.
  • Ability to develop and adapt new testing techniques and technologies to meet market needs.
  • Experience in conducting performance and reliability tests, and validating products against standards.
  • Skill in maintaining and calibrating research and test equipment.
  • Effective teamwork with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams; ability to report progress and present findings.
  • Strong organizational skills for project planning, execution, and supporting product development and launches.
