About the position

The Applications Engineer at Central Virginia Community College is responsible for the ongoing planning, problem-solving, and support of software applications utilized within the institution. This role emphasizes a strong understanding of software functionality, troubleshooting skills, and excellent customer service, particularly in relation to PeopleSoft and Modern Campus systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support PeopleSoft systems including Student Information System, Administrative Information System, and Human Capital Management.
• Maintain and support the Workforce Solutions information system (Modern Campus).
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for software applications.
• Collaborate with personnel from the Virginia Community College System to resolve issues and test new functionalities.
• Recommend technological solutions to improve workflows in collaboration with various departments.
• Create documentation and provide training for end-users.
• Develop reports for internal and external constituents and perform query development.
• Ensure data security and protection.
• Manage employee access to systems.

Requirements

• Strong analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with SQL or Oracle PL/SQL.
• Familiarity with information security policies and standards.
• Experience with cloud-based applications and infrastructure.
• Ability to learn new skills, tools, and technologies through training and hands-on experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in Higher Education and with PeopleSoft products.
• Experience in electronic form development.
