About the position

The Applications Engineering Assistant at Mikron Corporation plays a crucial role in supporting the Applications Engineering team by developing proposals for complex automation equipment. This position is vital for the company's growth and stability, aiding in securing new projects while ensuring the technical and commercial feasibility of the systems being sold. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to create detailed automated assembly system concepts and provide technical support throughout the proposal and project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer requests for quotes by reviewing specifications, drawings, models, and components to develop assembly machine concepts.
  • Collaborate with Key Accounts Managers and the Applications Engineering Manager to determine customer requirements and sales strategies.
  • Develop detailed automated assembly system concepts and consult with internal engineering leads to address design concerns.
  • Produce AutoCAD 2D layouts and Inventor 3D models to support the sales process.
  • Specify and price third-party systems through direct supplier contact.
  • Create detailed project cost estimates to form the basis for sales pricing.
  • Prepare technical PowerPoint presentations and draft proposal documents defining the complete project scope, including technical details, pricing, schedule, and commercial conditions.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers during the proposal phase and collaborate with other engineers as necessary.
  • Present solutions to customers as part of the Sales team and transition the project to operations staff at the project kickoff meeting.
  • Act as a consultant to operations staff during the project phase, gathering feedback on quote accuracy for continuous improvement.
  • Update CRM (Salesforce) to track customer opportunity information and maintain records of the proposal process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license and be eligible to obtain a passport for international travel.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year as requested and on short notice.
  • Experience in industrial automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the medical/pharmaceutical manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, 3D CAD (Inventor preferred, SolidWorks, Creo), PDM/PLM, and Salesforce.
