About the position

The Applications Sales Engineer II position is a critical role focused on driving sales of industrial gas products and technical solutions specifically tailored for the Metals and Heat Treatment Industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, growing, and maintaining sales to both new and existing customers. This role requires a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the products and solutions offered, allowing the engineer to differentiate the company's offerings from competitors effectively. By leveraging the company's sales process, the engineer will work to acquire new customers while also fostering growth and retention among existing clients. In this position, the engineer will act as a technical expert, utilizing creativity and innovation to address customer needs and objectives. This involves applying a value-added sales approach that enhances the customer's manufacturing processes. The engineer will support sales and market segment personnel by qualifying opportunities, designing technical solutions, and understanding customer feedback to develop proposals that meet their needs. Additionally, the engineer will maintain a strong understanding of competitive gas supply contract terms and industry trends, which will inform the development of new application technologies and improvements to existing equipment. Building relationships across various functions within customer organizations, such as operations, maintenance, and engineering, is essential. The engineer will also develop an industry network that includes key players and service providers to enhance prioritization and performance. Responsibilities include designing applications equipment and technical solutions in collaboration with the Applications Equipment Engineering team and the Global technical team. The engineer will also conduct customer process audits and safety training to ensure successful value creation through technical solutions. Continuous technical knowledge and competence in the company's applications technologies and services, as well as competitive solutions, are vital for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Create, grow, and maintain sales of industrial gas products and technical solutions to new and existing customers in the Metals and Heat Treatment Industry.
  • Act as the technical expert to differentiate the company from competitors and drive profitable sales.
  • Support sales and market segment personnel in opportunity qualification, technical solution design, and proposal development.
  • Maintain the existing customer base through technical expertise and relationship selling.
  • Obtain insights regarding industry trends and opportunities for new application technologies or improvements.
  • Build relationships with multiple functions within prospect/customer organizations.
  • Develop and employ an industry network to enhance prioritization and performance.
  • Design applications equipment and technical solutions in collaboration with the Applications Equipment Engineering team.
  • Conduct customer process audits and safety training to support value creation through technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline (Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Civil) required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in applying or selling technical solutions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 55% regionally during weekdays.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral, written, listening), and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels within customer organizations.
  • Strong problem-solving, innovative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with solid financial and commercial skills.
