About the position

As an Applications Sales Engineer II for Metals, focusing on Combustion and Heat Treatment, you will play a pivotal role in driving sales of industrial gas products and technical solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to create, grow, and maintain sales to both new and existing customers within the metals industry, specifically targeting heat treatment and combustion applications. You will serve as the technical expert, differentiating Messer from competitors by leveraging your knowledge and expertise to drive profitable sales. This will involve utilizing the Messer Pro sales process to acquire new customers while also focusing on the growth and retention of existing accounts. In this role, you will be expected to understand the unique needs and objectives of your prospects and customers. By applying creativity and innovation, you will develop a value-added sales approach that enhances the manufacturing processes of your clients. You will support the sales and market segment personnel by qualifying opportunities, designing technical solutions, and understanding customer feedback to ensure that the solutions provided meet their needs effectively. Additionally, you will maintain relationships with existing customers, utilizing your technical expertise to assist in relationship selling and ensuring customer satisfaction. Your responsibilities will also include obtaining insights into industry trends and identifying opportunities for the development of new application technologies or improvements to existing equipment. Building relationships across various functions within customer organizations, such as operations, maintenance, and engineering, will be crucial. You will also be responsible for designing applications equipment and technical solutions in collaboration with the Applications Equipment Engineering team and the Messer Global technical team. Your actions will be critical in creating value through the application of technical solutions, ultimately contributing to the success of Messer in the industrial gases market.

Responsibilities

  • Create, grow, and maintain sales of industrial gas products and technical solutions to new and existing customers in the metals industry.
  • Serve as the technical expert to differentiate Messer from competitors and drive profitable sales using the Messer Pro sales process.
  • Understand prospect/customer needs and apply creativity and innovation to improve their manufacturing processes.
  • Support sales and market segment personnel in opportunity qualification, technical solution design, and proposal development.
  • Maintain the existing customer base through technical expertise and relationship selling.
  • Obtain insights regarding industry trends and opportunities for new application technologies or improvements to existing equipment.
  • Build relationships with multiple functions within prospect/customer organizations.
  • Develop and employ an industry network to enhance Messer's prioritization and performance.
  • Design applications equipment and technical solutions in collaboration with the Applications Equipment Engineering team.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
